Just feel the extraordinary…

Bolivia could be considered like the best tourist kept secret of South America, but is only suggested to the most advised traveler, due a lack of terrestrial and aerial infrastructures, limited lodging and restaurant options, and above all due to long road transfers and volatile political and thus, social situations. Nevertheless, Bolivia is a surprisingly multi-faceted country with magnificent ecological variances and more than interesting cultural assortment. Along this itinerary, departing and finishing in La Paz you will cross distinctive geographical environments, all filled with chromatic magic.

From the high altitude of La Paz, to the warmer Amazon region of “Las Yungas”, to the Dali-esque moon landscapes of the Uyuni Salar and South Lipez deserts, to the colonial towns of Potosi and Sucre, you will be visually impacted by this remarkable country. You will also appreciate distinctive cultural expressions native to the regions visited and understand their integration into the modern socio-economical dynamic of Bolivia, where the dichotomy between colonial heritage and indigenous roots is the most acute and present in society.

This journey will begin and end in La Paz, Bolivia’s unofficial capital, spreading high on the mountains’ flanks. From La Paz, you will be transfered to the jungle town of Coroico. You will discover the Afro-Bolivian villages located in the heart of the valley of “Las Yungas.” To reach “Las Yungas,” you will follow the famous road of “La Cumbre” for a thrill ride, which was reputed as the most dangerous road on earth, when trucks used to circulate on it. Carved into the mountain’s flanks, “la Cumbre” is a 28-mile long sinuous dirt road which evolves in contrasting scenery by dropping from the “Altiplano” at 13,100 feet high into the lush jungle.

Then, you will explore the Aymara land of alpaca and llama breeders, the Sajama reserve, located in a surrealist moon landscape. In the heart of the “Altiplano,” the reserve is dominated by the Sajama peak reaching an altitude of 21,300 feet high and by a volcano range marking the border with Chile. You will also stop in the ghost town of Tomarapi where you will encounter local breeders.

From the Sajama reserve, you will continue to the amazing salt deserts of Bolivia. Along this 4WD circuit you will explore the astonishing surrealist decors of the incredible salt deserts of Coipasa, Uyuni, and the South Lipez. The lagunas “verde”, “blanca,” and “colorada,” the pink flamingo colonies, the Dali-esque stone formations, the volcanic activity of Sol de Mañana, the island of Inka Wasi with its giants cacti, the herds of ” vicunas”  are all visual treasures that will punctuate you itinerary. At the end of the circuit, you will stop in the village of Tupiza in order to relax.

From Tupiza, you will go to Potosi, famous for its silver mines, where you will live underground moments with local miners. From there, you will discover the colonial town of Sucre and its colonial architecture and treasures, and visit the colorful market of the traditional village of Tarabuco.

From Sucre, you will fly back to La Paz for a last impression of the city, leaving for your international destination the following day.
